Who We Are

phil greeningFormer England Rugby Player Phil Greening established Sporting Chance Foundation after a visit to the Stung Meanchey Municipal Waste Dump in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh. Phil saw the squalor the children were living in but also saw the hope and happiness in their eyes. Although the charity will base its first project in Phnom Penh, ultimately we want to help children in every corner of the world.

Phil, however, is not the only recognisable face on board. Sporting Chance Foundation is supported by a group of ambassadors made up sport and media personalities, including England rugby world cup heroes Johnny Wilkinson and Jason Leonard, leading musician Heidi Range from the Sugababes and ESPN’s very own Charlie Webster. Our ambassadors will dedicate their time and expertise to ensure the charity reaches as many people as possible.

What We Do

The aim of Sporting Chance Foundation is to improve the lives of under privileged children. Whether it is an inner city kid from London, or child prostitutes in Vietnam, as long as they want to kick a ball, we will always be there to kick it back. Whilst we will provide the necessities to make this transformation – food, shelter and clothing – we also want to provide each child with a set of characteristics that will last them a lifetime. We are strong believers that the ethics learned on a sports field – responsibility, leadership, teamwork – are transferable to any environment. To this extent, we provide the opportunity for children to try various sports that they might otherwise never experience.

Sporting Chance Foundation will also work alongside existing NGOs. We have already formed an alliance with Touraid, an international charity that funds junior teams from less fortunate areas to play sport abroad. A conjunction with Touraid will give children from Sporting Chance Foundation unbelievable new opportunities to broaden their minds. However our funding is not only reserved for our own projects, if we see an NGO with a suitable cause we will do what we can to help out.
